"Wherefore, be of good cheer, and do not fear, for I the Lord am with you, and will stand by you; and ye shall bear record of me, even Jesus Christ, that I am the Son of the living God, that I was, that I am, and that I am to come."

Lets play a game called find the sleeping child

So back in July/August when we were visiting family in Colorado, Abi learned to crawl out of her pack and play. Well this time, she learned to crawl out of the crib. Even worse! Augh! We were expecting this but didn't plan for it to happen on vacation. So this turned out to be an adventure of sleeping children sleeping where they shouldn't be, when they shouldn't be, not when they should be, etc. So enjoy these pictures and our new game called Find the Sleeping Child!

Round 1: Where is my nephew?
Do you see him?

Because sleeping was not happening for anyone when it should now that Abi had decided not to sleep at night, everyone started sleeping more during the day. So couple teething some molars with sleep deprivation and you've got a party! :)
Sleeping during the day

Not sleeping at night

Round 2: Where is Abi? This is her first night of having her mattress on the floor since she had already scraped up her face learning to crawl out of the crib. We were quite anxious to see if she would figure out how to sleep on top of the mattress.
Do you see her?

Round 3: Where is Abi on her second night on the floor? These get harder, don't they?
Do you see her now?

Here's the answer... We left her there and went to bed in the same room. In the middle of the night we woke up because we heard her trying to find her way out and running into all sorts of problems with it. Poor thing. Growing up is hard sometimes. Especially in the dark.
There she is!

So, after several nights of not sleeping the way she should, she decided this would be a better solution... No joke, she fell asleep here and stayed this way for a while wobbling every now and then until James felt bad for her and took her to bed. He's a nice dad. :)
Really not sleeping at night

After a couple nights, we put the mattress back in the crib and set up a chair for her to use to climb in and out. Because I guess, if you can't beat them, join them, right? This worked much better because at least when she gave up on getting out of the room at night, she would end up back in bed before she fell asleep. :) Something about the independence made her ok with this. Just knowing she could get out if she wanted made it ok for her to be behind bars again.
Rocking the crib at Grammy's

The end of the story is that when we got back to NJ, she quickly showed me that she could also get out of that crib too now. Great. So, we set up a chair for her here too. She's happy to have her freedom to get in and out and it's really not a huge deal because she still can't get the room door open. The only huge bummer is that now, when she wakes up even only slightly from her nap, she gets right up and screams at the door for us; she used to just sing in her bed until she fell asleep again. So her naps are now about 45 minutes instead of the 1.5-to 2 hour naps I'm used to. And Abi definitely still needs long naps. She's not a happy camper when she wakes up. So, we'll see how nap training goes... Any ideas are greatly appreciated! (Even now in February, we're still working on lengthening the naps. Help!)
