We were lucky to be able to spend a week and half in Kansas in June. This came as a great distraction since James's employment fell through yet again. What a rough time we've had here in TX. We came here planning to live here for at least a decade and we seem to be struggling to get one year under our Texas belts. When people learn we moved here less than a year ago, they ask how we like Texas so far, and my response has become, "We love Texas! But it doesn't seem to love us." Haha!
The drive to my parents' home in Kansas is 12 hours without stops (or kids). It was definitely a 14-hour drive because our kids are at the age that they need to run and stretch. They can't just jump out, pit stop, and go again. So we found some cool rest stops and gas stations to explore. This one had two giant dogs to advertise their pretty awesome dog run area. Really, world?? REALLY!!?? Why do gas stations have amazing playgrounds for dogs and nothing for kids?? Who was this world build for? Humans or animals? Ok, rant over. Breathing now... Haha!
Anyway, the kids loved the dog statues. And they were pretty cool.

We did finally make it to our destination. And the cousins were so happy to play together! They love this barn and I'm glad they have it!

When you grow up in a small town, the pool is the center of entertainment and socialization in the summers. We have a favorite pool because it has the best kid slide. Can't you see the happiness here?

Marysville, KS has a claim to fame with their black squirrels - a non-native animal. The legend, as I remember it, is that a long time ago, the circus train came through town and some black squirrels escaped from their cages and bred to the point that now Marysville is full of black squirrels. They celebrate that uniqueness there and have put probably 20 or 30 of these squirrel statues all over the city, all decorated uniquely. The kids had to have a picture with one so we stopped by the bowling alley and posed with this handsome fellow.
