So, two days later, we went to the high school Homecoming Parade that walked right down the road by our house. How cool is that? The boys were a little reluctant because they had never been to a parade which means they had never experienced the sheer joy that comes from gathering candy off the streets. Who doesn't like having free candy thrown right into their lap?
Adam was able to help prepare the float for his group and several of my seminary students were in the parade so we were excited.
It took us a while to get ready... because you have to have a chair, water, hat, and popsicle to properly view a parade. Unfortunately, I forgot that you also need a candy-gathering bag. But we managed.
I got us all popsicles, cut them open and set them on the counter for everyone to grab as they left. Well, Dale grabbed his and went over to the sink and soon we heard him say, "Is this already open?" "Why, yes, dear Dale... Why?" "I didn't know that!" Apparently, he cut the other end open as well and had a very difficult dilemma... Here's the picture of him eating his popsicle super fast over the sink as horizontally as possible.
As we left the boys' house earlier that day, I reminded Bradley to grab a hat if he had one, so he picked the police hat. How cool is that? When he realized what the hat was for, he sadly decided he'd rather not wear it in public after all. Too bad. James was a sweetheart and took this lovely picture of us. He was working from home that afternoon and didn't get to go with us. Poor guy!
Here are some fairly cool floats!
And here are the boys after the parade ended. I should have gotten a better picture of the candy we gathered but OH Baby! did we get LOTS of candy! Some of the floats had the 8 year old football teams and cheer leading clubs on them and those young kids throw LOTS of candy. They're my new favorite candy-throwers.
We will definitely need to do this again next year! Don't you think, boys?
