James's brother Jason decided to run for a State Representative seat last year and won! As family members, we were recruited to help hold signs on streets, pass out fliers, put up signs and spread the word! It was actually really interesting and made me feel genuinely part of the community and the country. I recommend everyone get involved in their local politics when they can - it's a great experience!
When the 60-day session started, it began with the swearing in of the Representatives which the public could attend so we took G up to Santa Fe to the Round House and watched. She was SO good! I was a bit nervous but she just sat on my lap the whole time and watched quietly and patiently. We just LOVE her!
This is Jason signing his oath of office or something like that. That may not be what they call it. But he signed it, whatever it was! :) And it was momentous obviously! Haha!
Jason had AWESOME success as a rookie or freshman representative. He had two of his bills pass - it's rare to have even one bill pass as a freshman - and he was voted freshman class president. Sounds like everyone loved him and was happy to work with him. What a testament to his understanding of politics and his willingness to work to get the job done that NM needs!
