Family Drive-in Theater

The Crowther family had their reunion activities on the weekend of the 24th of July. One of my favorite activities was the drive-in theater we concocted by projecting a movie onto a screen in the yard. James and I went to the local Wal-Mart and begged some cardboard from them to make cars for everyone to drive. They were more than generous with us and gave us an entire truck-bed full of cardboard including three giant watermelon boxes! It was so AWESOME!

The cousins and a few Aunts spent an afternoon decorating their cars and preparing for the drive-in parade around the yard. Here are mine and James's cars:

James's car is the old Model T type car. Mine is the mini-van. :) That couldn't be different in style...

The back... James put his license as JXH... meaning James and Heidi... Cute, eh?

We had a TON of FUN! This car is my aunts' Flintstone era car that more or less fell apart by the next morning. It had the cool roof originally and they both were able to get in and "drive" it to the movie. :D You can also see the super colorful watermelon boxcars in the background to the right. Those boxes are still full of sleeping cousins at this point in the picture. They turned out to be great shelters!

What is fun about the 24th of July is how MANY people gather in one area to celebrate. Manassa is a small town there in Colorado that swells to about 8,000 during this weekend. Where do they all stay? In tents in all the yards! Haha! This is James taking ours down before we left, but there were three giant tents in my uncle's yard for a few days and some cousins even slept under the stars.
